Safeguarding
Duncombe Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We have a number of robust policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy which can be viewed by clicking the link below.
At Duncombe, we actively support the Government’s Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism. All staff follow the Islington Safeguarding Children Board guidance on this and have completed training on Prevent. Please click on the link below to read the guidance.
We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. All school staff are trained in Child Protection, and children are made aware of the adults they can talk to if they have any concerns. Staff are trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and are required to report these to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
We have a team of Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL) that can be seen on posters around school.
Our DSLs are;
- Lucy Hyde (SENCO)
- Helen Ryan (Headteacher)
Our Deputy DSLs are;
- Katija Ali (Assistant Headteacher)
- Caroline Haydon (Assistant Headteacher)
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.
What to do if you are concerned about a child
If you are worried about a child or young person, please contact one of the Designated Safeguarding Leads at the school or you can contact Children's Services on 0207 527 7400.
Operation Encompass
Duncombe Primary School are working in Partnership with the Metropolitan Police and Children's services to identify and provide support to pupils who have experienced domestic violence in their household; this is a scheme called Operation Encompass
Operation Encompass has been set up to safeguard and support children and young people who have been involved in or have been a witness to a domestic abuse incident. Children can be negatively impacted by experiencing domestic abuse and this impact can last through a child's life.
Encompass has been created to allow and implement a safeguarding partnership with the police and the schools. The propose of sharing information to schools is to allow the keys adults working with the child to provide a plan of support in a familiar environment.
