Modern Foreign Languages
Over the last few years a range of MFL has been taught at Duncombe School, including Spanish, French, Cantonese and Japanese. There are two main languages taught at Duncombe: Spanish and French. These are taught on a weekly basis. Specialist teachers Luz (Spanish) and Dawn (French) teach alternate weeks.

Spanish is currently taught in years 3 and 4 and French in years 5 and 6. Years 5 and 6 have even visited Paris as part of their language training.

Home languages are also supported through extensive activities. We currently have a community language specialist in Somali, Turkish, Bengali and Albanian and cultural classes to support all the above groups are held regularly. There is also the opportunity to take GCSEs in Bengali, Spanish and Turkish for both parents and children at Duncombe.
Each year at Duncombe, teaching staff are given the opportunity to visit our link schools in Paris, France and Leon, Spain. Several teachers have taken part in this two week primary project:
Leon, Spain 2007 >
Paris, France 2007 >
Paris, France 2008 >
Teaching staff at Duncombe also attend French and Spanish classes at local secondary school Elizabeth Garrett Anderson (www.egaschool.co.uk). These
lessons are taught by Linda Quinn (French) and Claire Hammond (Spanish). Duncombe teachers have the option to sit ASSET exams in order to receive
qualifications in MFL.
