Over many years, Duncombe has taken part in a very exciting European cultural exchange programme, called Comenius. More recently, we have been part of an Erasmus+ project, developing the skills and expertise of our staff and improving school practice.
The Erasmus+ project involves five trips abroad, focusing on assessment practices. Staff have taken part in courses as well as visiting schools which are leading in particular areas of assessment.

- Czech Republic
On our first project we linked up with schools around Europe to experience and gain from education in other countries. Teachers from Duncombe visited primary schools in five European cities. Unfortunately, some of our original partner schools are unable to participate due to funding cuts, but in our current project we continue to work with the staff and students in schools in Paris, Berlin and Lucca building on the links established in the first project.
On our second project, teachers from Duncombe visited our partner schools in Paris and Berlin, working with the children and staff around the theme of children’s literature. The children exchanged work and videos related to this theme and in doing so have enhanced their knowledge and understanding of other cultures.
This project's theme is exploring food in the UK, France, Germany and Italy. We even celebrated a Comenius Day in January. We spent our morning taking part in fun cultural workshops, learning a little bit more about our partner countries. Our activities ranged from discovering what it felt like to be Michelangelo painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel to experiencing French and German cafe life to navigating our way round some of the famous cities in these countries. In the afternoon we focussed on producing work for our shared project on food, exploring our stereotypes about what people in our partner countries eat. We have recently found out that we will have a partner school in Turkey to join our project!
